Blog Submissions

Submission & Content Guidelines

We welcome original creative work across poetry, short fiction, essays, and feature journalism. To ensure our platform remains an inclusive, respectful, and high-quality space, please review the following rules before submitting:

1. Original Work Only

Submissions must be your own original work. By submitting, you confirm that you hold full rights to the content and that it has not been plagiarized.

2. Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech or Harassment

We do not accept work containing hate speech, bigotry, harassment, or explicit discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or identity. Content promoting violence or illegal acts will be rejected immediately.

3. Appropriate Content Boundaries

While we appreciate dark, complex, or mature themes, gratuitous violence, explicit pornography, or shock-value content without literary merit will not be accepted. Please include content warnings if your piece deals with sensitive subjects.

4. Rights & Publishing Rights

   • Selected submissions will be featured on our blog and considered for inclusion in our upcoming semiannual physical print newspaper.

   • You retain full copyright ownership of your work. By submitting, you grant us non-exclusive rights to publish it on our website and in print editions.

5. Editing & Formatting

   • Please proofread your work for typos, grammar, and formatting before submitting.

   • Minor copyediting (spelling, grammar, and layout adjustments) may be performed prior to publication to fit our layout standards.

Aber Stoat Books & Publishing is a passionate, independent, Carlsbad-based home for readers and writers. Starting as an online and pop-up indie bookshop, we have a curated selection of fiction—romance, fantasy, dark fiction, and occult—books and love to host community events. On the creative side, our independent press champions fresh local voices across a diverse mix of genres, including romance, fantasy, juvenile fiction, poetry, the occult, and self-help. We are a very small press and only take on 1 to 3 new titles per year. We are deep rooteing ourselves in local literary communities, sharing stories, book reviews, author interviews, plus shop and publishing updates through our active Substack blog. We are the proud host of the Silent Book Club Olde Carlsbad chapter and are excited to expand our unique retail footprint by launching a brick and morter bookshop in the Carlsbad area, coming soon
